Born on July the 6th in 1946 in the city New Haven, Connecticut, George Walker Bush served two terms as the 43rd President of the United States. Leading up to his presidency he served 5 years as the 46th Governor for the state of Texas.
Being the first born son of the United States 41st President made George Bush one of two US Presidents that are sons of a former US President. George W. Bush Graduated from Yale in 1968 and graduated from Harvard's school of business in 1975. After graduating he was assigned to the Texas Air National Guard in 1968 after serving two years in the army. His assignment to the prestigious outfit, again was rumored to be manipulated as many well known US citizens, among them Terry McAuliffe and Russ Baker, have claimed that he was commissioned to the Air Force due to political influence from his father. To support this, Bush's low test scores were cited. After serving in the air force he worked his way up in the family business and made an attempt to be elected into the House of Representatives in 1977, but failed. After his defeat he became co-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, and it would be until 1994 that Bush tried again and defeated Ann Richards in the Texas gubernatorial election. Bush's election in 2000, which got him the presidency, was a close one and much cause for debate, but nevertheless he won and defeated Al Gore who was Vice President at that time under the Clinton administration.
On September 11th, 2001, 8 months into his first term, the dreaded 9/11 terrorist attacks took place and Bush retaliated by declaring Global war on terrorism, and invading Afghanistan as the attack was believed to have originated from there. Two years later, he would head the invasion of Iraq for similar reasons. Besides many declarations regarding national security, Bush advocated economical policy changes resulting in many decreases in taxes, and changes on health care, social security and in the field of education. Many bills regarding these topics were passed, and internationally his policies were the cause for many debates.
Bush campaigned for a second term, and with success, as he defeated Senator John Kerry in 2004. Bush's elections are controversial for always being regarded as a very close call, and many rumors have always remained regarding the manipulation of the outcome for both of his terms. While his first term was a hectic one, Bush managed to maintain his popularity amongst the US population, but in his second term after badly handling the disaster, caused by the Hurricane Katrina, this took a turn for the worse as both liberals and conservatives became increasingly critical regarding his policies. At the end of 2007 the country went into the longest economical recession since the Second World War. This resulted in many economical programs designed to take control over the economy and save the economic system.
After serving his second term as the US president, George W. Bush went back to his home State Texas, where he obtained a house in one of the suburbs of Dallas. Currently he is still active as a public speaker and is working on a book that revolves around his two terms of being the President of the United States.
